

Gerard W. Lavigne, 79, of East Hartford passed away on March 19, 2011 after many years battling cancer at home. He was born in St. Hermenegide, Quebec, Canada on March 28, 1931 to the late Henry and Marie Anne Lavigne. He was husband of Monique (Ferland) for 53 years. He was a man of great patience, an avid card player and was known as a man that could fix anything. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church and a friend of Bill W. for 20 years. He had retired as a superintendent for Partitions Inc. of Newington. He was a member of Local 43 Carpenters and the Knights of Columbus. Along with his loving wife Monique, he leaves his two sons Alain Lavigne of East Hartford and Roger Lavigne and his wife Michelle of Harrisburg, PA: his beloved granddaughters Nicole, Menon, Rachel, Renee and special granddaughter Athena: his sisters Therese, Gertrude and Rejeanne: and brothers Raymond, Gilles and Donald. He predeceased by a daughter Francine Lemke, a son Robert, a brother Oscar and a sister Pauline. Relatives and friends are invited on March 28th at 8 a.m. to the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford for a period of visitation until 10:30 a.m. prior to the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, East Hartford. The family would like to send a special thanks to North Central Hospice, Palliative Care and the staff of Dr. Reale at Manchester Memorial Hospital Cancer Care Center.
