Gilbert Michael Gagnon, 76, longtime resident of East Hartford and the beloved husband of 54 years to Patricia (Coltey) Gagnon, went home to be with his Lord on August 3, 2018, surrounded by the love of his family. Gilbert was born in Van ¬ Buren, ME on October 13, 1941, a son of the late George and Alma (Lausier) Gagnon. He was one of 8 children.
After High School, he proudly served in the United States Army. He then met and married the love of his life, Patricia. Gilbert lived his life honorably and honestly. He taught his family to have a good work ethic and strong family values.
Gilbert was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s Church where he served as a Eucharist minister and volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program.
Gilbert worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for many years until his retirement. His love of airplanes would take him to many air shows in CT & MA.
He was a devoted and a loving husband, father and grandfather who adored his family. He enjoyed cooking for them for special Sunday dinners, and making pancakes for 3 of his granddaughters. Gilbert loved a good game of pool and rummy with anyone who was willing to be beat.
He will be deeply missed by his family; his beloved wife Patricia, daughter Tina Erickson and her husband Robert of Tolland, son Michael Gagnon and his wife Carmela of Meriden, daughter Michelle Shuckerow and her husband Robert of Rhode Island and his 7 grandchildren.
He also leaves behind a brother Bob and wife Carol, sisters, Gemma and husband Armand, Augustine and husband Wayne and Jean, as well as brother-in-law Gary and wife Marie, sister-in-law Jeannie and brother-in-law Jack and his wife Maryanne.
