Hercule J. Gilbert

Hercule J. “Hercky” Gilbert, 80, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Maureen (Laroche) Gilbert for 58 years, entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 16, 2010 after a period of declining health. Mr. Gilbert was born in St. George, Quebec, Canada ,the son of the late Adolph and Regina (Berube) Gilbert and had lived in the East Hartford community for most of his life. Prior to his retirement he had been employed for 39 years by the Chandler Evans Corp. of West Hartford. The patriarch of the family, he was always willing to help in any way he could, dispensing advice and comfort to all his family. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially golf. He loved to dance and always enjoyed being with family and friends. Along with his wife he is survived by his four children; Sandra Newton and companion Wallace Inkpen of Manchester, Linda Camarco and her husband Gene of Coventry, Peter Gilbert and his wife Ann of Plant City, Florida and Diane Stebbins and her husband James of East Hartford. He also leaves his three brothers and three sisters, along with his four grandchildren; Adam Newton and his wife Sarah, Ryan Gilbert and Joshua and Geoffrey Stebbins, and his two great grandsons; Ethan and Evan Newton, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Gilbert was predeceased by six brothers and sisters and by his grandson, Ross Gilbert. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave. East Hartford on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. for the procession to St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer St. East Hartford, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. The interment service will follow in the Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Mr. Gilbert’s family will receive callers at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 279 New Britain Rd.
