

Ida R. (Babe) Funk of East Hartford, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012 after a long illness. Ida was born on August 10, 2012 in McKeesport, PA and moved to East Hartford shortly thereafter for the remainder of her life.
She graduated from East Hartford High School in 1948 and married her beloved Norman in May of 1952 remaining married to him for 59 years .
In her professional career she worked for Coca-Cola; Pepsi-Cola and retired from Hamilton Standard as a contracts administrator.
Her passion outside of her family life was Politics. She was devoted to the Democratic Party in East Hartford for over 4 decades. She served on the East Hartford Democratic town committee for almost 40 years. She served on the Economic Development Committee for the town and was the Head Moderator for too many elections to count.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years Norman W. Funk Sr. and a sister Patricia Hoar. She is survived by her two sons, Norman W. Funk Jr. and his wife Paula of Ashford CT along with their 3 children Bryan, Will, and Jessica, and Stephen P. Funk and his wife Liz of Litchfield CT along with their 4 children Samuel, Doodle, Jane and Nellie. She is also survived by her 2 sisters, Joan Griffin, Nancy Dowd, and 1 brother Clarence Redshaw all of East Hartford CT, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 10 am at St Rose’s Church, 33 Church St. East Hartford, CT. Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery in East Hartford. Calling Hours will be held that morning from 8am to 9:30am at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108.
