I met Jim in1972 when I was getting out of barber school.  I was 20 yrs old at the time, he helped me perfect my trade with his knowledge, skill, experience and  kindness.  Because of Jim I am still in the barber business and have had a successful career.  I have known many hairstylist, barbers and champions over time, but Jim was the best in the profession. To Jim's family, My sincere condolences to you all.  Like many others, I will mis Jim very much.  In addition to getting a dependably good haircut, it  was alway enjoyable to see Jim.  When my family went through our own difficult period, Jim was a tremendous support for me.  He always had kind and encouraging words.

I sometimes think of Jim as I'm brushing my hair, remembering how often he told me how great my hair was.... "If I were still entering competitions, I would bring you.  you have such a great hair line."

Enjoy the good memories.  I know that they are numerous.

My sincere sympathy in the loss of Jim. To his wife and children and many friends it appears, I will pray for God to fill your broken hearts with peace and comfort. I never knew Jim, but I have loved his mother for a very long time; she was a neighbor of mine from Stanley Street. I visit her now and then, and the last few times I had, she was so, so sad about Jim's failing health. I could tell her heart was broken; a mother's worst nightmare to lose your child. May he rest in eternal peace and love.

I was 16 when I first met Jim in a men’s hair styling salon in Bushnell Plaza, Hartford (1970). My mother had spoken with Loretta and she recommended him.  Jim is a first cousin of my first cousins, but we had never met.  It wasn’t long before Jim asked me to be a practice model for a team of hair stylists preparing for competition.  My role was to sit quietly for a hair styling session every two weeks after hours in either Hartford or New Britain.  Styling competitions were timed events that allowed so many minutes for the cut, which was judged and scored, and so many for the style, which was judged and scored.  Timing was so tight that the stylists modified their blow dryers to increase the temperature and airflow.  They were like blowers connected to a blast furnace.  On one occasion Jim brought me to Boston as his model in a men’s hair styling competition held at the Fairmont Hotel in Copley Square (we didn’t win).  After the Connecticut team won numerous other competitions, Jim and his two partners, Andrew and Sal, focused on their new hair stylist shop, Headline Hair Designers on Pearl Street in Hartford.  I continued to get my hair styled by Jim at Headline, until he moved to Florida and set up men’s stylist shops there.  Years later Jim returned to Connecticut and opened a series of shops in Manchester, whereupon I resumed hair styling by Jim and that continued every 3-4 weeks until November 2010.  Jim styled the hair of my wife and two sons as well, and in this way Jim was a part of our extended family.  He will be thought of fondly by all in our family and genuinely missed. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Suzanne and the family.

Facing a dilema that I havent had in nearly 30 years, needing a haircut but dont know where to go...miss u Jim!!

Like many other lucky individuals I stumbled upon Jim after giving myself a horrendous haircut. He calmly repaired the damage, chided me with his unwavering good humor and gained a friend and a loyal customer. An artist, a humorist, a man with a very big heart. The 13 years I knew him were not enough. God bless and surround his family with love.

Suzanne and family:  I am so sorry for your loss.  Jim was a one of a kind man. Always loved talking to him and hearing his stories. He was the only guy I would drive 20 minutes over the river and through the woods to get my hair done from. May you have comfort knowing he is resting in peace.

My very sincere sympathy to you for your loss. Jim and I have had a very long relationship through his barber shop. I have gone to him for the best of discussion and his very best expertise as a barber since he bought the shop from Bob, so many years ago. I will miss him greatly, May God bless Jim and his family.

Ahh Jim,
  I don't even know where to start. 20 years ago I walked into your salon for an interview a shy, blushing, easily embarrassed recent grad of 18 and you gave me a chance. I will always be thankful for that day. You loved saying things to see how red I could get, and oh how you loved when I slipped and called you Dad (heehee). The memories I have could fill pages. You are truly one of a kind, you are a beautiful soul, a generous human. You taught me so much more than "barber" tricks, you taught me how to love life. You will always be part of my heart and my best memories. Thank you for being a friend a mentor and a Dad ;) I love you and will always miss you

I was shocked and very saddened to learn that Jim has passed away.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Jimmy for the past 38 years that he has been cutting my hair. One Sunday him and Suzanne took me out to Essex on their boat and I instantly became a boater. The very next day I went out and bought my own boat.  When I told Jimmy, he said... " I can't believe you had the nerve to go out and buy a boat bigger than mine and your first one too !  I never laughed so hard in my life !  I will truly miss Jimmy and his humor.  My condolences go out to his Wife Suzanne and their wonderful family during this very difficult time.
