
Jean H. Bloomer, 94, formerly of East Hartford, beloved widow of Richard B. Bloomer, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Pilgrim Manor Care Center in Cromwell. Born in Mt. Upton, NY on Feb. 26, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Fred Stanley and Anna Pearl (Oliver) Heimer. She was raised in New York and received her teaching degree at SUNY Cortland and taught for many years in upstate New York. She was a devoted member of New Covenant / Burnside United Methodist Church since 1942 and was a soloist and 55 year member of the Chancel Choir. She was also a member and volunteer of the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Retiree Club. She enjoyed bird watching, solving puzzles, especially crossword puzzles. She was a loyal Red Sox and UCONN women’s basketball fan, never missing a game. She also enjoyed many years camping with her family at the Lone Oaks Campsite in East Canaan, CT. Her greatest joy came from spending time with all of her family and friends. She is survived by two sons Richard L. Bloomer and his wife Elizabeth of Holbrook, NY; Fredrick Bloomer of East Hartford; and a daughter Carolyn Ray of East Hartford. She was a very dedicated and loving grandmother to her grandchildren, Richard S. Bloomer of New Hyde Park, NY; Kelly Schneider and her husband Tom of Sound Beach, NY; Jason Ray and his wife Deanna of Durham, CT; and a grandson in law Patrick Duclos. She also enjoyed five great grandchildren; TJ and Ryan Schneider, Ryan Dusclos, and Amy and Christopher Ziemba. Along with both her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving granddaughter Justine “Carrie” Duclos. Jean’s family will be receiving relatives and friends on Wednesday (Oct. 27th) from 5-7 p.m. at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday (Oct. 28th) at 11 a.m. in New Covenant United Methodist Church, 16 Church St., East Hartford, CT 06108. Interment will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
