

Jean Clark Nokes, widow of Richard M. Nokes, died peacefully at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness on May 22, 2013. She was born in Hartford on July 30, 1925, daughter of Marion B. Clark and Linford W. Clark.
She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School (1943) and the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing (1946). While still a student nurse she was on duty at Hartford Hospital at the time of the circus fire in 1944. She continued working as a nurse at the hospital and also did private duty nursing for many years. From 1976 through her retirement in 1988 she worked with the American Red Cross blood program. For more than 50 years she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Alumnae Association of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, and the South Congregational Church in Hartford.
She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Richard, in 2012. They lived in West Hartford for many years, retired to Florida in 1992, and returned to Hartford in 2004. She leaves three sons, Jeffrey (Janet) of Edison, NJ, Gregory (Judy) of Glastonbury, and David (Susan) of Cromwell, a half brother Linford Clark of Cottageville, SC, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 AM on June 7 at South Congregational Church in Hartford. Memorial donations may be sent to South Congregational Church at 277 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06106.
