He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Elizabeth; his son, Bryan (Cindy) Fitzgibbons of Palmetto, Florida; his daughter, Amy (Scott) Olschefskie of Sarasota, Florida; his brother, William Fitzgibbons of Bradenton, Florida; and his cherished goldendoodle of 14 years, Chloe.
Born in 1942 in East Hartford, CT, John spent his entire career as a Program Manager/Engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, where his dedication earned the respect of all who worked alongside him. During that time, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves and also attended the University of Connecticut.
John and Beth built a home in Tolland, CT where they raised their two children, Bryan and Amy. John was a devoted parishioner of St. Matthew’s Church in Tolland and a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Gifted with remarkable craftsmanship, John built a custom 1957 Porsche Speedster C in his garage. He shared his passion for automobiles with his brother Bill and his son Bryan, spending many enjoyable days attending car shows together.
When not watching NASCAR’s No. 22, you could find him watching the Red Sox or a UConn Huskies game with his daughter, Amy.
Following retirement, John and Beth enjoyed beach life in Ponce Inlet before moving to Lakewood Ranch in 2021 to be closer to family. There they continued making treasured friendships while enjoying the many local car shows that became one of John’s favorite pastimes.
John’s greatest joy was the life he built with Beth and their family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
