Jose M. Zavala Sr.

Jose M. Zavala Sr., 86, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Jose was born on February 24, 1930 in Caguas, Puerto Rico, a son of the late Jose and Alejandrina (Ortiz) Zavala. He was the beloved husband of Ana Hilda (Morillo) Zavala for 67 years.

Jose was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great great grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a spiritual man with strong beliefs, sharing his love as a Pentecostal Preacher and as a member of the choir at church in Puerto Rico. He enjoyed traveling, driving to many different destinations with his wife Ana, gardening and anything that involved history. He was a smart man with many talents.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Ana, children; Jose Jr., Sandra, William, Virgen, Carlos and Jorge, 14 grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, 5 brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jose is predeceased by 2 siblings.

Friends and family are invited to attend a period of visitation on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 9-11am at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford CT 06108. A Funeral Service will follow immediately at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will conclude services in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
