Lucy M. Alessi, 99, beloved wife of the late James S. Alessi of Jamestown, NY passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 in Springfield MA surrounded by her loving family. Lucy was born November 16, 1918 in Jamestown, NY to the late Joseph Piazza and Mary (Margaglia) Piazza.
Lucy graduated from Jamestown High School in 1938. She married James in 1944 while he was serving in the military during WW2. Lucy and James were married over 70 years.
They resided over twenty years in Jamestown, NY where they raised their family. She worked for the City of Jamestown - Department of Public Works Utility Billing Division, for over 20 years. In 1972, the family moved to Rochester NY, to better assure future employment and college opportunities. Following this, Lucy became employed by the New York State Workmen’s Compensation Division in Rochester, NY. After 15 years of service, upon retirement, they moved to Pinellas Park/Clearwater, FL where they enjoyed over 25 years of retirement and warm weather.
Lucy was a devoted Catholic and a loving and caring mother of three children. She was truly family orientated, always concerned about everyone but herself. Since education was a high priority, she went back to work to assure future college education was available for her children.
Lucy was predeceased by her brother James Paige of Jamestown, NY and son-in-law Michael D. Ward of East Granby, CT. Lucy is survived and will be clearly missed by her sons Robert V. Alessi and his wife Teresa of Puyallup, WA, James P. Alessi and his wife Jacqueline of Greece, NY and daughter Rosemary Ward of East Granby, CT. Lucy has been living with Rosemary after the passing of her husband James in 2014. Lucy had 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Grandchildren: Tom Alessi, Michele Walker Richardson, Chris Ward, Chad Ward, Jeff Alessi, Shannon Smith, Kristen Soles and Marie Alessi.
Great Grandchildren: Caitlyn Alessi, Collin Walker, Jordyn Alessi, Kyle Walker, Jacob Walker, Cole Richardson, Nathan Alessi, Hunter Ward, Chad Ward Jr, Brandon Ward, Summer Simmons, Cooper Ward, Quinn Alessi, Devynn Smith and Piper Alessi.
There will be a Funeral Mass held on Monday, Feb. 26 at 10:00 AM at St. Therese Church, 120 West Granby Rd, Granby CT 06035. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Association. www.alz.org/ct/in_my_community_donate.asp
