Marcel P. Martel
October 8, 1923 – February 17, 2017
Marcel Prosper Martel, 93, of South Windsor, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2017. Marcel was born on October 8, 1923 in Derby, VT to the late Joseph and Flora (Caron) Martel. After his high school graduation, Marcel worked on the family farm, in Randolph, VT, attending cattle, poultry, harvesting the family crops and doing many farming chores. He served in the Army in 1944, married his late wife of 27 years, Kathleen Gloria Nolan in 1945, and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952. Marcel worked with Colt Industries, in West Hartford, as a mechanical engineer for 36 years before his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed traveling and square dancing. Marcel will be dearly missed by his 3 daughters; Sharon Riggs, Deborah and her husband Rick Blesso, Marie Baumgartner, 2 sons; Joseph and Mark Martel, daughters-in-law; Claudia and Angela Martel, dear friend Jennie Smith, a brother Leopold and a niece, Monique of Quebec, Canada. He also leaves 12 grandchildren – David, Michael, Tammy, Maren, Brie, Tess, Eric, Peter, Kerstin, Ty, Travis, and Steven as well as 10 great grandchildren- Ty, Breanna, Brooke, Braylyn, Jeremiah, Zoe, Sterling, Aowyn , Samuel, & Caleb. In addition to his wife, Marcel was predeceased by his son, David Martel
Relatives and Friends attend a period of visitation, TODAY, Sunday February 19, 2017, 4-7pm at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marcel’s name may be made to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice or to the Village at Buckland Court, 432 Buckland Road, South Windsor, CT 06074.
