

Marcia N. Budil, age 89, of East Hartford, died on May 27 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation. She was the beloved wife for 58 years of John Henry Budil, who preceded her in death in 2004. Marcia was born in Hartford, daughter of the late Robert and Ida (Finn) Northam, and was a life-long resident of East Hartford. She was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1943. Marcia was a member of the King’s Daughters, and a faithful and active life time member of South Congregational Church of East Hartford where she participated in the choir and was renowned for her trained, soprano voice. She was also an active member of the East Hartford Women’s Club, and a proud member of the DAR, Martha Pitkin Wolcott Chapter. Prior to her retirement, Marcia was employed for many years as a legal secretary in the Hartford law firm Donahue, Collins, Palotti and Stewart. In addition to singing and gardening, Marcia enjoyed entertaining friends and family year round in her vacation home on Cape Cod. Marcia was predeceased by her brother, Richard W. Northam of Memphis, TN. She is survived by two daughters, Marjory B. Berky and her husband John of Windsor, and Valerie L. Budil and her companion Barry Ridley of Vernon; five grandchildren, Caleb B. O'Brien and his companion Karen Jones of Watertown, Asa J. O'Brien and his wife Urszula of Bolton, Colin B. O'Brien of West Stafford, Matthew R. Berky and his wife Patricia of Windsor, and Louise W. Hayes and her husband Gregory of Kresgeville, PA. She also leaves 7 great-grandchildren: Brianna, Zachary, Liana, Scarlett, Gavin, Cameron, and Mallory. A period of visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 2-4pm at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108. Funeral services will begin on Monday, June 8 at 10:30am, followed immediately with a Memorial Service at 11am all at the funeral home.
