Marcos Antonio Cortez

Marcos Antonio “Papo” Cortez, 82, of East Hartford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025. Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Marcos built a full and loving life rooted in hard work, family, and friendship.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Luz Vasquez-Cortez; his cherished daughter, Rachel Vasquez; his mother, Agripina; sister, Carmen; and brother, Raul.

Marcos dedicated 45 years of service to Pratt & Whitney, where he was known for his commitment, skill, and kindness toward everyone he worked with. His strong work ethic and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving children, Michelle Sadownick, Margo Cortez, Michelle Cortez, Amy Cortez, Iris Cortez, and Jean Olivo; his siblings, Estelle, Olga, Julie, Jose, and Nick; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and his dear friend, Judith, who brought joy and companionship to his later years.

Marcos will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and devotion to family. His legacy lives on in the love he shared and the memories he leaves behind.

A Visitation to honor Marcos’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 10:30AM to 12:00PM at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home in East Hartford, Connecticut. A Prayer service will be held on Wednesday November 12, 2025 at 12PM. Interment will immediately follow at St. Mary Cemetery 930 Burnside Ave. East Hartford
