Mary was a resident of E. Hartford for over 62 years, and a lifetime parishioner of St. Mary's Church. She was the daughter of the late Jean and Walter Leavitt, and stepdaughter to the late Ernie DiGioia. Mary was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She was blessed as a grandmother of eight grandchildren, and lived to enjoy her first great-granddaughter. Mary's love for reading gave her an endearing ability to understand and build instant connections with everyone she encountered. Mary's family enjoyed a beautiful garden that she maintained, and everyone enjoyed her bountiful baking every year, especially at Christmas. Her faith and her family were her main devotions and always came first in her life.
Mary is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Edward H. Cullen, and their eldest daughter, Katherine Cullen. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her son, Paul J. Cullen, and his wife Linda of Colchester, and their children, Ryan, Shaunna, and Brennden; her daughter, Jean Butrymowicz, and her husband Walter of Charlotte, N.C., her daughter Amanda and great grand-daughter, Jane; her son, Edward P. Cullen, and his wife Christine of S. Windsor, and their children, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Michael, and Mackenzie. Mary also leaves her dearest friend, Gienia, who took loving care of her for the past eight years.
