Mary D. Reitze

Mary D. Reitze, 84, of Glastonbury, more recently of West Dover, VT., passed away on October 1, 2016 at Centers for Living & Rehabilitation where she had lived since October, 2014. She was born January 10, 1932 to the late John F. Drake & Helen (Forrest) Drake in New London, CT. She was the beloved widow of George H. Reitze, who died 10/9/2010.

Mary was raised in Union City, NJ with summers in South Harpswell, ME at the family’s cottage. She lived 49 years of her adult life in Glastonbury, moving to West Dover, VT in 2012. Mary Graduated from Emerson HS, Union City, NJ,

Graduated Douglass College 1953, Bach. Fine Arts, and Master of Fine Arts from University of Hartford.

Mary was a lifelong artist & craftswoman, involved in painting, photography, jewelry making, sewing and many other crafts. She worked for Conn. General Life Insurance briefly after college and again in the late 1960’s. Mary was a teacher for over 20 years in the Art Department of Glastonbury High School, retiring in 1991.

She is survived by her son Jim Reitze of West Dover, VT., grandsons Josh Reitze of West Dover, VT. & Zack Reitze of Canton, NC., sister Elizabeth (Drake) Maxwell of Scotland, and her beloved grand-dogs Kiya, Nuella, Akita & Silver Cloud.
