

Myron Edward Young, “Ed”, 80, beloved widower of Joan (Gaskas) Young, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. He was born on August 29, 1931 in North Adams, MA, to the late Wallace A. Young Sr. and Charlotte Frances Gould.
Ed proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the LST 1159. Ed and Joan were longtime residents of East Hartford. He was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a precision welder with almost 40 years of service, retiring in 1993.
Ed was a loving father devoted to his family and was happiest when in their company. He will be most remembered for his quiet nature that spoke volumes of his character.
Ed had a zest for life and loved fly fishing, spending time in Maine, jigsaw puzzles, swimming in his pool, spending quiet time outdoors and his yard. He was a military buff, reading books and watching any movies about this subject.
He was a member of the Pratt & Whitney Retirees Club, East Hartford Senior Citizens, and he was a volunteer at the Manchester Memorial Hospital for almost 20 years.
Ed is survived by and will be dearly missed by his daughter Suzanne Fierro and her husband David A. Jr. of Stamford, VT, his stepson C. Thomas Cables of Bennington, VT, his granddaughter Kristen Cables and great granddaughter Aayliah. Ed will also be missed by his brother-in-law Bob Gaskas and his wife Joyce of Winsted, CT, sister-in-law Dorothy Young, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and his parents, Ed is predeceased by his brother Wallace A. Young Jr.
Friends and family are invited to attend the services for Ed to be held at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108 beginning with calling hours on Saturday, April 14th from 9-11AM, with his memorial service following at 11AM. Services will continue with the committal of his ashes with full Military Honors in the family plot in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
