

Oswald H. Cameron, 88, surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 3, 2011. Oswald was born February 16, 1923 in St. Ann, Jamaica and was a graduate of the Lindstead Agricultural School Class of 1949. He was a Shop Foreman for the City of Hartford Housing Department and retired in 1985. He was an Elder at the Connecticut Valley Seventh Day Adventist Church, of South Windsor and was the founder of Sharon Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bronx, New York. He started the Prison Outreach Services for men and was a historian and teacher of bible history often doing lectures, workshops and seminars throughout New England and other states. Oswald participated in the Civil Rights Movement and marched with Dr. Martin Luther King. He was a journalist as well. He was a classically trained Tenor, appearing at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan. He was an accomplished Trumpeter. He enjoyed gardening of plants, flowers and vegetables of all kinds. Oswald was referred to as Mr. Ozzie, Honey or Bishop by his friends and family and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be fondly remembered as a caring, compassionate Christian man, who loved and cherished life.
He is survived by his beloved wife Rachel (Foster) Cameron, two sons Paul H. Cameron of East Hartford and Joshua N. Cameron and his wife Crystal of Maryland, his daughters Delores Jones of New Brunswick, NJ, Cynthia Stanislous of Bronx, NY and Beverly Robinson of Maryland; his mother in-law, Alicia Foster of Miami FL.; his sister in-laws, Emilia Dossantos and her husband Raymond, Josephine Foster, Carmen Foster, Hazel Glover and her husband David; his brother in-law Ernesto Foster; his aunt in-law, Georgina Hinds; his grandchildren, Joseph Henry and his wife Nina, Catrell Joseph and his wife Jepthe, Shanelle Quintanilla and her husband Jose, Anthony Robinson, Nicole Robinson, Joshua Cameron Jr., Chantel Cameron, Paul H. Cameron, Paul J. Cameron, Paula Cameron, Philip Cameron, Patrick Sampson, Natasha Lesley; his great grandchildren, J. Noah Henry, Kristan Henry, Mekhi Joseph, Ariana Quintanilla and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday March 7, at 11AM at the CT Valley SDA Church, 354 Foster Road, South Windsor. Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery in East Hartford. Calling hours at the church are Sunday March 6, 2011 from 3-6PM and on Monday from 10:30AM until service time. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford.
