

Roger Paul Messier, 72, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Gail P. Messier, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Torrington, CT to the late Paul and Therese (Rouleau) Messier. He was proud to serve in the United States Air Force. He retired from Alcatel / Lucent Technologies in 2010. Roger was a devoted member of St. Christopher Parish volunteering his time on the Home Front project and at the school. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was always available with his handy man abilities for his family and friends. He cherished time spent with his grandsons, spending countless hours working on projects and never missed one of their sports games.
In addition to his wife Gail, he will be dearly missed by his children, Michael Messier and his wife Pam of Ellensburg, WA, Daniel Messier of East Hartford and Bridget Cooke of East Hartford; his grandchildren, Paul Messier, Joshua and Colin Cooke; his siblings, Bernadette Benner and her husband Don, Annette Ouellet and her husband David Carmel, Paulette Moran and her husband William, Roland Messier and his wife Delores, Claudette Messier and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Phil Gosselin for his spiritual guidance and to Dominic DiBella and David Cooke for their continued love and support.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd, from 4 to 7PM at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 23rd, at 10:30AM, at St. Christopher Roman Catholic Church, 538 Brewer St. East Hartford. Friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home at 9AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Roger’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
