Shige (Shimizu) Zuhauskas of East Hartford, Connecticut passed away May 21, 2020 at the home of her daughter Nancy and son-in-law Charles Babcock of Canton, Connecticut. She was pre-deceased by her husband August P. Zuhauskas in 2017, sister Toshiko and brother Minoru. Shige leaves her son Charles Zuhauskas of East Hartford; grandson Thomas Babcock, his wife Christina and great-granddaughter Evelyn of Wayland, Massachusetts; grandson Stephen Babcock and Chris Thomassen of Louisville, Kentucky. Shige leaves her sister Setsuko of Sendai, Japan and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Shige was born on December 13, 1925, daughter of Torasaburo and Kinoe Shimizu in Sendai, Japan. She met her husband August Zuhauskas when he served in the Army first during World War II and Korean war. Shige, following her husband who was a career military man, moved to South Carolina where she proudly became a U.S. citizen. She then journeyed to France, New Jersey and then Connecticut after her husband retired from the Army. Shige worked for Pratt and Whitney for 20 years then retired to enjoy many years knitting and needlepoint, traveling with her fellow P&W retirees, attending St. Isaac Jogues parish, participating in the Tekakwitha Guild and their activities and enjoying her grandsons. She was a terrific cook and prolific baker. She will be missed.
