Shirley Damiata

Shirley Mae Damiata, 98, wife of the late Salvatore John Damiata passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, February 8, 2025. She was born May 23, 1926 in Hartford a daughter of the late Leon and Grace (Latimer) Kennedy. Shirley became the caregiver for Salvatore for many years before his passing in 2014. She also was a lung cancer survivor. Her family will always remember how she loved the holidays, weather it was decorating the home or cooking for days.

She is survived by three sons; James Damiata of Newington, William Damiata of East Hartford and Joseph Damiata, a grandson; Santino Damiata who held a special place in her heart, several more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law; Dora Kennedy and the exceptional longtime caregiver Mercy. Shirley was predeceased by 6 brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford on Friday, February 28 from 2:30-4:30pm. A service will be held at 4:30pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
