Stanley G. “Bummer” O’Connell, 82, a lifetime resident of East Hartford, passed away peacefully, surround by his loving family, on February 20, 2018. He was born in East Hartford, a son of the late John and Esther (Farrell) O’Connell. He was a tractor trailer truck driver with Teamsters Local #671 for 30 years before his retirement. Bummer served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed Rhode Island, with his beloved wife Diane, where they resided for the last several years. Family was very important to him and he enjoyed every moment they spent together, he was a good friend to all and was a good listener. His favorite pastime was fishing and clamming in Rhode Island, he loved the ocean. He was the rock of the family. He will be missed for his loving companionship, conversations and helpful caring ways. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Diane (LaPlant) O’Connell, his daughter Cheryl Dargie and her husband Daniel of Windsor Locks, his sons Richard O’Connell of Thomaston and Sean O’Connell and his wife Tina of Enfield, his sisters Wilma Manion of East Hartford and Jacqueline “Chickie” Danise of Ellington, four cherished grandchildren, Derek O’Connell and his wife Anna of Newington, Dillon and Chase Dargie of Windsor Locks and Taylor O’Connell of Enfield and several nieces and nephews. Bummer’s Life Well Celebrated Service will be Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 12 NOON at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT 06108. Burial is private.
