

William S. ‘Bill’ Johns, 88, a long-time resident of East Hartford and more recently Manchester, passed away July 10, 2015. He was born in Hartford, CT, son of the late Sam and Helen (Ladany) Johns. William was a World War II Navy Veteran, proudly serving his country from March 1945 to July 1946. At one time, he was the owner/operator of Bloomfield Mini Mall Pizza Palace and following that he was a cook in a few local restaurants before finally retiring from the Price Chopper Bakery in Vernon at 82 years old. Bill was a resident of East Hartford for 51 years before moving to Vernon and then to Manchester for five years. Bill loved to garden and enjoyed sharing the vegetables he grew with family and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Eva (Jardin) Johns in 2007 and his brother Christie Johns in 2012. Bill is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-laws, Christie J. Johns and Alice of Vernon, Mark Johns and Teri of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Nadine Johns of Spring Hill, FL, and Donna Burke, of Coventry; six grandchildren, William Johns, Alyse Johns, Thomas Pawloski, Devan Burke, Kyla Burke and Rylee Buswell and two brothers, John Johns and George Johns and his wife Fay all of East Hartford. Bill is also survived by his sister-in-law Carol Johns, of Rocky Hill, and many other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services for Bill will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11AM at the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford, CT. Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery Veterans Field in East Hartford. Visiting hours will be Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 4-7PM at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108
