I have met Akin Amca (Uncle Akin, as we say it in Turkish) by coincidence a few years ago at one of his favorite restaurants in town. He was a very gentle soul, full of life, liked joking around, and talking. We have had many lunches together and talked about politics, sports (mostly soccer), his memories from his youth, and his family. He very much loved his children, grandchildren and his niece and her children. Based on our conversations, I can say that he had a tough life, starting from his youth, but he endured difficulties with a good spirit. He was proud with his identity as a Turkish American and as a Muslim. He loved both Turkey and United States very much. He once said he wanted to visit Turkey one last time but it wasn't meant to be. Rest in peace Akin Amca. May God greet you with His mercy. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

To the family of Akin Caldiran
Akin, your dad and grandpa and all his many many friends. I've known Akin for almost as long as he has been in this country, I met him while I was delivering pies to The Melios brothers at the Mason and Lewis Cass buildings in1964, was not too long after he immigrated from Turkey. Our friendship really developed during the mid to late sixties when Akin and his partner Pete Spadafore bought the diner on the corner of Michigan and Faireview. I worked for Heatherwood and worked part-time at the golden 8 ball next door to his restaurant. After selling the restaurant Akin would eventually go to work for Heatherwood and then to Schafer's bakery in route sales. Where he became not just one of greatest route salesman that I have ever worked with in my career but he became legendary. Anyone who has ever put on a Schafer bakery or Aunt Millie uniform should take time out to salute this fine man from Turkey for what he did for our company. The family should take great pride in the name " Caldiran" he was the best there was, I loved the man and all the sales people like him
Your friend forever
