

Amelia Ann “Ami” (Vargo) Schury (age 75) died Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 in Lansing, Michigan, surrounded by family. Ami was born July 1st, 1947, in Bay City, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William and Henrietta (Meinecke) Vargo. Ami grew up in Gilford, and graduated from Akron-Fairgrove High School in 1965. She and her ex-husband raised their two sons in Freeland. Ami had many careers throughout her lifetime, including legal secretary, Realtor, salesperson, and business manager. A longtime resident of Saginaw, Ami moved to Lansing in 2009 to be close to her son. She is remembered for her happy personality, her sense of humor, and her clever wit. She enjoyed blues music, cooking and crafting, making new friends, and getting a good deal.
Ami is survived by her sons and their spouses Peter and Beth (Bobbitt) Schury of Wako, Japan, Michael (Schury) and Philip Erickson of Okemos; granddaughter Koishi Schury of Wako, Japan; sister Carol (Vargo) Wahl of Gilford; ex-husband Dale Schury of Saginaw; Tabitha Vargo of Gilford and seven other nieces and nephews; her beloved Papillon dog Emmett; and numerous loving family and friends. Ami was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother William Howard Vargo, sister-in-law Amy Vargo, younger brother Richard Vargo, and sister-in-law Janet McLain. Ami’s family will be present to receive friends at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Chapel (1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing) between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 17th, followed by a memorial service starting at 1:00 pm. A light lunch will follow. Ami’s family requests memorial donations be made to Stoneleigh Residence Hospice of Lansing, whose wildlife and views of nature brought her comfort in her final days.
