Louise Annette "Anne" Bailey passed on June 15, 2026, at the age of 96. Anne was born to Edwin and Elizabeth Bush on September 23, 1929 and raised by her step-mother Rosa Gould Bush in Jacksonville, Florida.
Anne met the love of her life, a Naval Officer, Don Bailey in 1956 at the Officers Club in Jacksonville, Florida. Anne soon married Don on February 23, 1957. Don and Anne moved to the Northern States for Don's education, settling in East Lansing, Michigan for Don's career.
Don and Anne raised five beautiful children, Bill (Charlene) Bailey of Georgia, Kathryn Karazim of Mason, Michigan, Susan Bailey of East Lansing, Michigan, Janet Bailey of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and John (Janet) Bailey of New York.
Anne, being a child of the 1940s, enjoyed Big Band music from the era such as The Andrews Sisters. She was a big fan of Michigan State University basketball and watched the team play each season. She liked visiting the beach very much, particularly the beaches of Florida, where she and Don spent Michigan winters at their condo. Anne had a sweet tooth, especially for caramel and treats like Heath bars. She loved all fruits and always had her fruit bowl full of delicious choices for breakfast. Each year at Christmas, she baked a variety of Christmas cookies and plated them as gifts for friends and family to enjoy. She was the queen of Christmas wrapping, elaborately wrapping gifts with care for the recipients.
Anne was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed hosting her family for holidays and their birthdays. Anne was the heart of her family. She remembered everyone's birthday and always sent family and friends personal cards for their birthdays and holidays. Anne loved to cook homemade meals, which were enjoyed by the whole family. Anne taught her children and grandchildren the secret to her specialty, the perfect apple pie, which will be carried on for generations. She enjoyed crafting, knitting mittens for her grandchildren each year, and embroidering beautiful needlepoint artwork. She also enjoyed gardening and prided herself on maintaining a beautiful yard each year. She loved plants and cared for many in her home such as Christmas cactuses and orchids. Don noted at one time that she had so many plants that one tried to reach out and grab him! Anne loved playing board games with her family, especially Yahtzee, Sequence, and Phase 10. Anne was an avid reader and was a loyal patron of the East Lansing Public Library. She could read a stack of books in no time!
Anne and Don traveled extensively after they retired, visiting most of the national parks in the continental U.S. Anne loved camping in their pop up camper with Don. Each year, they took their grandchildren on week-long camping trips, which their grandchildren enjoyed very much. Anne and Don also enjoyed a couple of cruise trips in their retirement, visiting the Caribbean and Alaska. Visiting Alaska was one of Anne's dream trips that she had the opportunity to go on, which she loved.
