Arden Vern Beck
December 13, 1930 – May 22, 2020
Arden Vern Beck, 89, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 in East Lansing, Michigan.
Born December 13, 1930 in Lansing to Vern and Esther (Summer) Beck, Arden was always staying busy: a gifted woodworker, artist, and tinkerer, he also enjoyed taking care of his yard and being outdoors. He worked at Oldsmobile until his retirement in 1989. He was an excellent water-skier, and his favorite places on earth seemed to be anywhere in or near water: his favorite beaches were Elk Rapids in the summer and Orange Beach in Alabama in the winter. He loved animals and often brought home pets in need of a home.
Due to his Mennonite upbringing, Arden had a belief in Jesus Christ and strong Christian values which he practiced daily. Arden enjoyed giving back by volunteering his time to clean and prepare bulletins for services at Trinity Church, where he faithfully attended for many years.
Weekend mornings were often spent in the company of the “Breakfast Club Buddies”, a group of men who would gather for breakfast after heading out to treasure hunt at all the garage sales in the area.
More than anything, Arden loved being with his children and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Bernice Gerig and Valetta Walton. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ann Marie (Engle); his children, Vaughn Beck and Kristi (Russell) Rowe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission.

A very dear 1st cousin of all but 11 months of my life. We lived near each other in Lansing, until I married & moved to Florida. However! Our occasional visits to Mich. & phone chats kept us close in a family way. His sisters Berniece & Valetta were also very special in my life. Assisting as surgical nurses for me, & helping with all 6 of us kids while growing up. Arden (Art) & some of our buddies enjoyed his jaunts to the Lake, for fishing & ski-
ing in our younger years. I'm missing our chats by phone & Skype. I'm ready to join him when The Lord says it's time for me to go "HOME" too. God bless Ann & the children, Vaughn & Kristi.

Heartfelt and loving thoughts are sent to the Beck family. I am so very sorry to see the passing of Arden. A life well lived, generous, hard working and kind. Bless each of you and hope the memories of a life time give you comfort.
I know Vaughn through work and I can see that your father gave you your creativity and the ability to do many things along with always being good to others. I am glad you have your mother Ann Marie and sister Kristi to stay close to.
Condolences, Donna Svendsen

Our hearts are heavy over the loss of your dad as we send our condolences to you and your family. The best of him still lives on in you. I had no idea he was a fellow fan of the "garage sale" and now understand where you got your interest. I will surely be thinking of you both when we are able to resume our treasure hunts.
Love and hugs,
Vic and Karen
