Barbara Jean Vowels
September 30, 1942 – February 9, 2020
Barbara Jean Vowels, age 77, of Lansing, Michigan passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020. Barbara was born on September 30, 1942 in Vine Grove, Kentucky.
Barbara left Kentucky with her oldest child at a young age and moved to Michigan, where she had the two youngest of her three children.
She went to Michigan State University's James Madison College, where she earned a Bachelors Degree, then on to Western Michigan University, where she acquired her Masters Degree in Public Administration. Following college, she worked for the State of Michigan for 20 years.
Barbara was an avid MSU fan and a doting grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She had a great fondness for animals and nature. Barbara believed in justice and equality for all people, and she donated to various organizations that championed these causes. She loved her family deeply.
Barbara was the oldest sibling in her family of ten children. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother Kevin, and her much cherished cat, Leo.
Barbara is survived by five sisters, Marilyn, Carol, Colleen, Betty, and Lisa, and three brothers, Steve, Michael, and Stanley and by her three children, Julie (Dann), Jeffry (Anna), and Michael (Jill), and her two beloved grandchildren, Isabella and Jackson.
She will be greatly missed.
Please join her family for Visitation on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes (1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, Michigan) followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Okemos, Michigan.
