

Carla Leddy Barnes of Lansing, Michigan passed on July 8, 2025. Born in Zanesville, Ohio on December 8, 1938, she was the only child of William F and Mary Kopchak Leddy. At a very early age she and her parents moved to Winchester, Indiana where her father worked as a mold maker at Overmyer Mould Company.
Carla graduated from Winchester High School, Class of 1956. She graduated from Hanover College in 1960 and received her Masters Degree in Social Work from the Indiana University School of Social Work in Indianapolis and eventually received her PhD in Developmental Psychology from Michigan State University.
Carla taught in the Michigan State University School of Social Work and the College of Nursing for several years. She spent most of her professional career as a Clinical Social Worker in Indianapolis, at Lafayette Clinic in Detroit and in community health in Lansing. For many years she also worked in private practice.
Carla is survived by her husband, Patrick Dwyer Barnes. She passed on their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary. She is also survived by her two children, Michael Leddy Barnes of Canton, MI and Jennifer (Jendy) Dwyer Barnes of Chicago as well as her daughter-in-law, Wanda Accra Barnes. Also surviving are grandchildren Patrick A. Barnes, age 15, and Corinne A. Barnes, age 13, of Canton, MI.
Carla has been cremated and her Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 955 Alton Rd, East Lansing, MI on Friday, August 8th at 11 am. The family will receive visitors at church beginning at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, Carla requested that contributions in her memory should be directed to Winchester Community High School Scholarship Fund, Winchester Community High School, 700 N. Union St, Winchester, IN 47394.
