Carol was born on July 2, 1925 in Pittsburgh. She fell for Dick in high school, wrote to and prayed for him during World War II, and exchanged wedding vows on August 10 (both their mothers’ birthdays), 1948.
An outstanding student, she attended the University of Pittsburgh for two years but left to become a secretary to support her family. She encouraged Dick’s education and career advancement, which culminated in his doctorate of education and ascendance to Churchill Area School District superintendent.
She nurtured her children – Susan (Andrews) and John Richard “Jack” Good Jr. – and returned to the workforce to pay for their college. She took great pride in Sue graduating from medical school. She celebrated Jack’s passions for art and architecture and grieved his premature death.
After retiring in 1981, Dick and Carol moved to Sunset Beach, N.C. They were active in their church, and Carol volunteered in the local library. They continued to learn and travel, attending many Elder Hostel classes.
They made many trips to Michigan to visit Sue and husband Chris Andrews and grandchildren, Mike and Leslie. Carol sewed Halloween costumes, made Christmas cookies, and watched their games and concerts.
In 2010, Carol and Dick moved to Haslett. Dick died in 2016 just before their amazing great-grandson John Elsey was born to Leslie and Ryan Elsey.
Relatives and friends will celebrate Carol’s life at 1 p.m. Sunday at Okemos Community Church, 4734 Okemos Road, Okemos. Please share memories and condolences with the family at www.greastlansing.com.
