Chawntawnge Jones

Chawntawnge "Chawn" Jones passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Friday, October 7, 1972, in Lansing, Michigan, as the eldest daughter of Sharon Curry.

Chawn was educated in the Lansing School District and graduated from Everett High School in 1989. After graduating, she pursued a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, a profession she dedicated herself to for many years until illness prevented her from continuing.

In 2008, Chawn married the love of her life, Barry Jones. Family was everything to her, and she cherished every moment spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her faith in God was unwavering built on trust and devotion. She spent time reading, taking notes, and ensuring that her final conversation of each day was always with her Maker.

Chawn was a strong, loving, and caring person whose smile could brighten any room. Known for her calm and easygoing spirit, she had an old soul and a deep love for jazz music—she could listen for hours.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 17 years, Barry Jones; her 3 sons: Da’jon Cross of Phoenix, AZ, Damere Jones and Dawson Jones of East Lansing, MI.; 2 daughters: Ahmia Jones and Aaliyah Jones of East Lansing, MI. 9 grandkids: D’Angelo, Dajon Jr. Tatiana, Anjeanetta, Zaenajh, Aya, Khalil, Krysten and Ahlani, 1 brother Sidney Black II, 2 sisters: Terriea Black-Nash and Naterria Cross of Lansing, MI; and a host of family and friends.

Chawn was preceded in death, by her Mother Sharon Curry and Father Sidney Black.

A visitation for Chawntawnge will be held Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
