OBITUARY
Cheryl Ann Martyn
March 16, 1945 – August 3, 2014
Age 69, passed away at 12:55 p.m., August 3, 2014, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. She was born on March 16, 1945, at Camp Lejeune, NC, military base to the late John M. and Geraldine A. Schuster. On March 18, 1967, she married Don Martyn in Ferndale, MI. She had recently retired after nearly twenty years as an agent with Briarwood Realty Company. Cheryl grew up in North Muskegon, MI, and went to North Muskegon High School. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1965. After getting married, she taught social studies in Lansing public schools. She stayed home to raise her three children, Laurel, Kathryn and Kurt. She volunteered for many years in the Junior League of Lansing and served as its president. She was also a founding member of St. Martha’s Catholic Church. She later worked in the Okemos public schools in the administrative office, as the cheerleading coach, and as a mentor to the student council. She enjoyed spending time with her devoted husband, children and grandchildren. Known to occasionally dance on tables, she was full of life and strong opinions and a formidable foe in discussing politics. She also liked drinking coffee, skiing, shopping, reading, cooking and long weekends in North Muskegon. In addition to her loving husband, Don, Cheryl is survived by one son, Kurt Martyn of Haslett, MI; two daughters, Laurel (Brendan) O’Shaughnessy of South Bend, IN, and Kathryn (Kelley) Kuehne of Williamston, MI; and six grandchildren, Maeve, John and Katherine O’Shaughnessy, Max and Madelyn Kuehne, and Victor Martyn. She is also survived by one brother, John (Tamara) Schuster of Naperville, IL, as well as a nephew and niece, John and Brooke Schuster. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 9, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at St. Martha Parish, 1100 W. Grand River, Okemos, with Rev. Jonathan Wehrle officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 8, 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave., East Lansing and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Contributions may be made to Ele’s Place, 1145 W. Oakland Ave., Lansing, MI 48915, Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 W.
