Born in the beautiful village of Diakofto, Greece, Costas Sotiropoulos was the youngest of seven children. From an early age, Costas displayed a remarkable sense of independence, determination, and ambition. At just 15 years old, he left his hometown and moved to Athens on his own, beginning a journey that would shape an extraordinary life.
While living in Athens, Costas fulfilled his military requirement serving in the Hellenic Air Force. After serving his country he pursued his passion for athletics, playing professional soccer and joining the Police Academy. He later became a police officer in the heart of the City of Athens with the Hellenic Police Department. His love of helping people and sports would remain with him throughout his life.
It was also in Greece where Costas met the love of his life, Anastasia, while dancing at a village festival. Their chance meeting blossomed into a beautiful love story, and the two eventually married, beginning a lifetime of love, partnership, and adventure.
Costas made the courageous decision to follow Anastasia to the United States in pursuit of new opportunities and the American dream. They settled in Okemos, Michigan, where Costas became a proud business owner and baker, establishing Anastasia’s Donut Shop. Through hard work, dedication, and countless early mornings, he built not just a business, but a place that became part of the community.
Beyond his accomplishments, Costas was a man who appreciated life’s simple pleasures. He was a master lamb roaster and a phenomenal dancer on top of being an avid reader with a curious mind, a passionate sports enthusiast, and someone who truly enjoyed the company of others. Whether sharing a cup of coffee and blueberry muffin, enjoying a drink and cigarette with friends, discussing sports, or simply sitting around telling jokes and one-liners, Costas treasured those moments of friendship and connection. A devoted Greek Orthodox, Costas was most proud of his wife and family.
Costas’s life was a testament to courage, perseverance, hard work, and love. He will be remembered for the life he built, the friendships he cherished, and, above all, the love he shared with his family.
