

Passed away August 30, 2015 at the age of 64. Denice was born August 22, 1951 in Oakley, KS to Bertrand Morton and Jessie Ethel (Sim) Ball. She received her Bachelor and Master degrees from Michigan State University and taught for nearly 30 years, primarily 4th grade in the Laingsburg School District. She was a groundbreaking woman as a 29 year veteran of the US Army, enlisting in 1971 and retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Her tours of duty included Korea, Germany, Haiti and various stateside assignments including the Pentagon. Denice was extremely patriotic, always honoring veterans. She was loyal to her state and her school. Denice was an avid animal lover, had an adventurous spirit, and was always up for a road trip. She brought out the best in people and was very generous with her time and money. She was tenacious, strong willed and known for her engaging smile. Denice was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving is her brother, John S. Ball, sisters, Diane E. Ball (Clyde T. Coats), and Davine A. Ball-Reed (George H. Reed); nieces and nephews, Nathaniel (Amy) Ball, Jessie (Nick) Amodei, Phillip (Mary) Ball-Reed; three great nephews, Leo, Oliver and Ellis; loving “adopted children” Jessica and Ryan Nicholson, Cody Barnhart, Catherine Eakin (her children Bridget and Molly), Juliane and Katharina Dunkel; and friend James Murray as well as many loving extended family members and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church of East Lansing on a later date.
