East Lansing, formerly of Pontiac , MI
Dee Green age 57 of East Lansing died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Dee was raised in the Pontiac area graduating in 1974 from Pontiac Catholic High School (PCHS). It was at PCHS that Dee met her alter ego, best friend and love, Kevin Green. Married August 13, 1977, Dee and Kevin just celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary.
Dee possessed a sharp wit, great sense of humor, incredible compassion to assist others, and artistic aptitude, especially in jewelry and paper making, knitting and quilting. Aspiring to a nursing career from a young age, her studies were thwarted by a series of auto-immune diseases that plagued her entire adult life. Still, Dee embraced life in numerous ways, including managing the office of Mental Health Properties, Okemos, until 1997 when forced to discontinue working for health reasons.
Fighting chronic pain with incredible strength and determination, Dee professed that she shouldered this burden so that other women did not have to suffer. With progressive health set-backs Dee eventually decided that it was "every woman for herself!" Considered her second home, Dee's family would like to thank Sparrow Hospital and Sparrow Health System's dedicated staff for providing her with 27 year’s worth of heartfelt out-patient and in-patient care. In particular, her family would also like to thank Dr. John Armstrong, Dr. John Everett, Dr. Jonathon Henry, Dr. David K. Johnson, Dr. Julie Phillips, Dr. Barry Wright, and Dr. Paul Zack for their steadfast compassion and determination to enhance Dee's quality of life.
Grandson Easton DeBow-Green was the light of Dee's life. He called her "Mea." Also left to carry on her compassionate legacy and joie de vivre are her husband Kevin, sons Bryan (Amber DeBow), and Sean, as well as innumerable devoted family and friends.
Per Dee's wishes, a private family service was conducted with cremation to occur at a later date. There will be no memorial service. For those desiring, contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society at adoptlansing.com or the Sparrow Foundation's Women Working Wonders program at sparrowfoundation.org in memory of Dee.
The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman East Lansing. On line condolences may be shared with the family at www.greastlansing.com.
