Dorothy H. Chapman left us in this life on January 23, 2012. She was born on October 12, 1914 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Myron and Helen (Ross) Holsapple. She was a graduate of EastLansing High School (1932), and achieved her nursing degree from Edward W. Sparrow Hospital and Bachelors of Science at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dorothy was united in marriage with the love of her life, Herschel (Bob) Chapman, on August 9, 1941, to whom she was married for almost 60 years until his passing in 2001. Both she and Bob were Army veterans serving in World War II. She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp as an instructor of cadet nurses. After the war, she left her nursing career and began her career as our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 34 years, serving on the Board of Directors of its Mid-Michigan Chapter as volunteer director of motor pool services. She remained active in the community and church – a woman of great faith. Dorothy enjoyed life with her beloved husband, Bob, their family, their summer weeks at Stony Lake, their travels at home and abroad and their golf. She was the center of this family and will be greatly missed. She is survived by a daughter, Sue (Ray) Woodard of Eaton Rapids, and a son, Ross (Amy) of Kalamazoo. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild, as well as several “adopted” grandchildren who loved her. The family expresses deep appreciation to Dr. Dennis Perry, who cared for and loved Dorothy over the past several decades. A memorial service will be held on February 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 600 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids, Michigan 48827, Pastor Daniel Hofmann officiating. Contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Mid-Michigan Chapter, PO Box 30101, Lansing, MI 48917 or to the First United Methodist Church of Eaton Rapids. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing. On line condolences may be made at www.greastlansing.com.
