Born May 5, 1942, Dorothy Diane Rubin (née Detzer) lived her life to the fullest. Dorothy passed away on July 1, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was defined by her devotion to family, friends, food, coffee, and all the creatures in her backyard. She loved traveling to see family and friends, and when at home, would spend hours looking out the window upon the variety of birds and four-legged animals in her yard.
For many years, Dorothy taught piano using the Suzuki Method while living in Okemos. She then became the owner and president of Pockets in Lansing, MI. and The Foundry in Aurora, IL.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years and best friend Mark Rubin: her children Christy Tarr-McVey (Mark), Paul Richard Tarr (Ashley), grandchildren: Alex (Annie), Emma (Robert), Grace, Kylie (Zach), great-grandchildren: Clara, Paul, CeCe, and Dominic. She was predeceased by her child Holly Tarr.
A woman of extraordinary beauty, strength, and grace, Dorothy also had a competitive streak and won most of the Scrabble, cards, Rummikub, and Backgammon games she played with family and friends. Dorothy’s kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
