

Florence Green Williams passed away on March 30 at the age of 97. She was born on June 17, 1918 in New Haven, CT. She received her Bachelor of Education from The New Haven State Teachers College and earned her Master of Arts Degree from Michigan State University. Florence had a passion for teaching and taught Kindergarten in the Lansing Schools for over 30 years. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Dr. Frederick D. Williams. Florence was the beloved mother of their four children; Sandi Baker, Craig (Rita) Williams, Jill (Gary) Masters, and Kathy (Sam) Engardio. She enjoyed spending time with her nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and they loved her dearly. She is also survived by two sisters; Marguerite Booe (Phoenix AZ) and Bettie Counihan (Daytona Beach, Fl ). Florence was a long time member of the East Lansing Women’s Club (Past President) and Faculty Folk Club of MSU where she made many life-long friends. She and her husband were avid supporters of Michigan State University academics, arts, and athletics as “Honorary Coaches”. When not involved in MSU events they loved spending time with family and friends at their summer home on Walloon Lake, MI. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2:00 pm, at Burcham Hills, 2700 Burcham, East Lansing, in the Ada Whitehouse Room.
