Frank Calvin Hyde III

Frank is survived by his wife, Evelyn Wilcox Hyde of East Lansing, Michigan; children, Jeff (Shelley) Hyde of Shepherd, Michigan; Julie (Marc) Thompson of Perry, Michigan; Chris Hyde of Shepherd, Michigan; Jon (Mary) Hyde of Rochester, Michigan; and Shannon Hyde of Perry, Michigan. He is also survived by his sister-in law, Mesa Hyde of Edmore, Michigan; brother, Gordon (Thelma) Hyde of Pelican Bay, Florida; sisters, Janet (Martin) Cronan of Crystal, Michigan, and Barbara (Richard) Burlingame of Owosso, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Hyde II and LaVerne Vallance of Riverdale, Michigan; brother, Delance Hyde of Edmore, Michigan; sister-in-law, Connie Hyde of Lexington, Kentucky; and daughter-in-law, Lynn Hyde of Shepherd, Michigan.

Frank was born on June 26, 1929, in Edmore to Frank and LaVerne Hyde. He graduated valedictorian from Alma High school in 1947 and later graduated from General Motors Institute (Kettering University) in 1951 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He married Evelyn, his high-school sweetheart, in June of 1952.

After moving to Alma, he took over his grandfather and father’s International Harvester business in Riverdale while honorably serving as a captain in the Michigan Army National Guard. Frank and Evelyn were blessed with five children who they taught the family and work values they still have today. His children remember him as a kind, loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Frank was an accomplished hunter and fisher, and skilled at fixing just about anything. A fun-loving individual, he loved sharing stories about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

He was passionate about chocolate, cookies, traveling, and the University of Michigan. He was an active and dedicated member of the Alma Rotary Club.

A private family memorial will be held in July 2019 at his family cottage in Beulah, Michigan.
