Geneva "Gigi" Cawood

On the evening of Tuesday, November 22, Gigi Cawood passed away. Gigi lived 66 very full years, beginning in 1944 in St. Louis and the past 30 in East Lansing. Always optimistic and vivacious, Gigi’s family and friends will remember her giving spirit and bright disposition. Gigi had the greatest smile because she always had joy and adventure behind it. With her friends and family, she shared moments of warmth and laughter, but also helped shoulder the frustrations of life – all with understanding, strength, and love. Gigi was a beautiful and fashionable lady, known for her effortless style. She loved traveling with Jack, reading on the beach or by the pool, playing tennis and golf, walking her pug Lucy, and spending time with her family, especially her grandsons. She will be greatly missed. Gigi was very much involved in the community, including with the Wharton Center’s Inner Circle and P.E.O. and as a past president or chair of MSU’s Kaleidoscope, Sparrow Hospital’s Guild Charity Ball and the Capital Area Humane Society’s Fur Ball.

Gigi is survived by her husband John Cawood (Jack), her son Chip Barnett and his wife Paige, step-son Bill Cawood and his wife Julie, and grandsons Charlie, Spencer and Luke Barnett and John, Anders, Tom, Bob and Sam Cawood.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 26, from 12-2 pm and 5-7 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River, East Lansing. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 27, at 4:00 pm at The Peoples Church, 200 W Grand River, East Lansing with Rev. Penelope Swartz officiating.
