On Saturday, September 26, Peggy Kent, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at age 95 of natural causes.
Peggy was born in 1925 in New York City to James and Della (Maguire) Henry. She was the youngest of six children, and the only girl. Her mother passed away when Peggy was just three years old and the family moved frequently after that as her father tried to find work during the Great Depression. She spent several of her formative years in Boston, a place she spoke of fondly and often. She eventually relocated to Syracuse, New York, where she worked as a secretary for General Motors and later the Internal Revenue Service.
She married Thomas Graham Kent on November 3, 1956. In 1960, they settled permanently in Seneca Falls, New York, where she worked for the school system for many years and served briefly as a negotiator for her union. Together, Peggy and Tom raised two children, Polly and Andrew. Peggy enjoyed politics, reading, painting, and weekly meetings at the library of the “Myndwich” group to discuss the events of the day. In 2010, Peggy moved to East Lansing, Michigan, to be near her daughter.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her five brothers, her husband Tom, and her son Andy. She is survived by her daughter, Polly; son-in-law, Paul McAllister; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Kent (Kuric); four grandsons, Harrison, Trevor, and Miles Kent, and Keith McAllister; two step-granddaughters, Angeline McAllister and Cassandra Blake (Anthony); one step great-granddaughter, Annabelle Scott; and many nephews and nieces.
No service is planned at this time. Peggy’s ashes will be buried next to Tom’s at the Fort Custer National Military Cemetery in Augusta, MI, at a time when family can gather once again to celebrate her life.
Donations in Peggy’s memory can be mailed to the Seneca Falls Library, 47 Cayuga Street, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.
