George Swanson of East Lansing and Williamston went to be with his Lord on January 26 at the age of 87. He was born in Superior, Wisconsin to Ernest and Mildred Swanson on January 6, 1930, the oldest of four children.
After high school, George enlisted in the Air Force where he proudly served as a Control Tower operator. While stationed in Alabama during basic training, he met his first love, Jean, who became the mother of their five children. They were blessed with 37 years of marriage before her death in 1990.
In 1997 he met his second love, Carolyn, and in their nineteen years of marriage they enjoyed many travels and family celebrations.
George was a man of great faith being a loyal member of Haslett Community Church for over fifty years. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, delicious chili, silly hats, generous hugs, unsolicited advice, but most of all, his love of people.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Carol (Dan) Ried, Richard (Trudy) Swanson, Joan Shoff, Kathy Swanson (Frank) Monastero; sisters, Nancy (Jerry) Nelson and Margaret (Tom) Lane; stepchildren, Stuart (Esther) Stover, Laura (Lynn) Allen and Dan (Eileen) Stover; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
