She was born on November 15, 1948 in Logan, West Virginia to her parents, the late Lottie Lucille Dempsey (nee Alford) and Andrew Jack Dempsey. The Dempsey family later relocated to Jackson, Michigan where Harriett completed her schooling, started working, and got married. In the late 1970s, Harriett achieved her lifestyle dream of moving to California, settling in the lovely San Diego area. While in California, Harriett made many lifelong friends, loved traveling, and taking in all the beautiful sites. She started her municipality career and worked for the city of Escondido. In the 1990s, Harriett relocated to Michigan to be closer to her parents in their later years. While there she worked for the city of East Lansing and enjoyed her time with family and friends. In the 2000s, Harriett wanted to relocate back to the sunshine, only this time settling in on the Gulf Coast, in Englewood, Florida. She continued her career as a zoning plans examiner in Sarasota County. After retiring, Harriett decided to relocate one last time to Michigan, in the late 2010s to be closer to her lifelong friends, Paul and Scott. Harriett is survived by her closest and dearest friend, Scott Petto; her aunt, Millie Dempsey; her late sister Martha's children; Ollire, Erin, Chris, and Alex; her great nephews and niece, Chalin, Darius, Ariana, and AJ. In lieu of flowers, those willing to contribute, please contribute to your favorite charity in her memory. Harriett, you will be dearly missed.
