Died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Burcham Hills Retirement Community in East Lansing, Michigan. Born Hazel Rasmussen in 1918 to Danish-American parents who homesteaded in Dagmar, Montana, she was raised in Plentywood, Montana. She married James Finley Morse in 1942. They made their home in Seattle, Washington and also lived several years in Pennsylvania, New York and Kodiak, Alaska. She and James traveled widely for business and pleasure and Hazel maintained close ties with her Danish relatives. She was a loyal friend and great correspondent, very active in her community, and known for her hospitality, good cooking, and artistic talent. She loved gardening, fly fishing, and a good game of bridge.
Preceding her in death were her husband James F. Morse, her brother Walter Rasmussen, and her son Douglas Morse. She is survived by her children Joanne Morse of New York, New York, Steven Morse(Ginny) of Elverson, Pennsylvania, Susan Morse (Douglas) of Portland, Oregon, Sylvia Morse (Scott Swinton) of East Lansing, Michigan, and four grandchildren: Laurel Morse, Benjamin Morse, Amelia and Peter Swinton.
Her family sincerely thanks all the wonderful staff members at Burcham Hills for their very kind care. The family will hold a private memorial in Seattle. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing. On line condolences may be made at www.greastlansing.com.
