Helen Street

East Lansing – On the sunny spring morning of May 9, 2018, Helen Joanna Street was surrounded by family as she went peacefully to her Lord Jesus. Helen was born in 1931 and grew up in various places in the Midwest along with her siblings; Jon, Maxine, Carol and Alice, children of Reverend John R. and Helen Hoesman. Helen was preceded in death by her Father, Mother and brother, Jon.

While attending U of M in Ann Arbor, where Helen completed her undergraduate in education, she met her husband Cassius Street who “loved her before I ever saw her.” Theirs is an unmatched partnership of love, faith and life lived fully which will continue in Heaven.

Close to perfection at her first priorities; being a wife to Cash, mother to Erica and Kris and grandparent to Chelsea, Stefan and Kate, Helen also loved snow skiing, tennis, classical music, gardening, Summers at Epworth Heights, her son's-in-law (Karl and Dennis) and her dogs Annie and Meg. With a Masters in Education, before having children, she taught elementary school. Once her girls were grown, Helen taught ESL in East Lansing Schools to teen-agers from all over the world, many of whom ended up calling her, and treating her, as their surrogate Mom. To all those who know Helen, her kindness, beautiful smile and subtle radiance will be forever remembered.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday June 14 at River Terrace Church in East Lansing with a time for visitation and fellowship at 10:00 A.M. and service beginning at 11:00 A.M. A burial service will take place in Ludington, Michigan, later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen's memory can be made to River Terrace Church Music Program, East Lansing MI, or The Church Association at The Epworth Assembly, Ludington MI.

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing Chapel. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at

Helen was always the kindest most sincere person I have ever met. She always had a smile and I looked up to her on the tennis court and in everyday life. She was a fighter and said she wanted this surgery so she wasn’t so tired all the time and so she could return to play tennis. I will miss her and hope Cass and the family know how much we all loved her.

Aunt were always smiling and laughing and made me feel special. Even though since I lived far away and didn't get to see you very often while growing up I loved you dearly. The one thing I remember is the summer that I was 14 we were all in Michigan and you sheared your cottage with us. It was the first time I had S'mores on the beach after roasting hot dogs. It was also the summer of the "famous" frog jumping contest and Jonathan and I had to hunt down our own frogs for the contest. We didn't win but had a blast! I love you and Uncle Cash with all my heart. I am so glad that Marshal and I traveled up to Michigan to see you 18 months ago. I look forward to rejoicing with you with our Lord Jesus sometime in the future!
