Jeannie attended Fairmont High in Kettering Ohio where she met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Nietert, at marching band practice before high school started. They married in 1947 and were together over 80 years from the day they met until Dick’s death in 2021 at age 96. All those years later, Dick could still tell you what Jeannie was wearing the day he first spotted her.
After high school, Jeannie was proud to be a secretary at National Cash Register in Dayton Ohio until she had her first child. She then was a stay-at-home mom for many years.
Jeannie and Dick started their family in Dayton Ohio but soon moved with their three children to Farmington Michigan, where they were long-time residents and active at the First Presbyterian Church of Farmington. After her children were grown, she was a volunteer receptionist at St Mary’s Hospital in Livonia Michigan for over forty years. They also loved to travel and took many trips to Europe, and around the US and Canada.
When Jeannie and Dick stopped traveling, they bought a villa in Summerfield Florida that they enjoyed for half the year for many years. When they sold their house in Farmington, they moved to Fox Run, a senior community in Novi Michigan. They loved the many activities and events there. Their family especially appreciated the Sunday brunches and Christmas brunch at Fox Run.
After Dick died, Jeannie moved to the Brookdale Meridian Memory Care facility where she resided until her passing. She was, of course, one of the favorite residents, due to her sweet nature, which continued even as her dementia increased. Jeannie’s family thanks Brookdale and Hospice of Lansing for their wonderful care.
Jeannie raised three beloved children, Rebecca “Becky” O’Grady (deceased 2017), James “Jim” Nietert (Carrie), and Jane “Janie” Schultz (Stephen). She is also survived and mourned by grandchildren Jeff O’Grady (Stephanie), Brian O’Grady (Tiffany), Tim Nietert (Stefanie), Billy Nietert (Dani), Kevin Schultz, Eric Schultz (Ali Sanchez), and Ryan Schultz, and by ten great-grandchildren.
Jeannie was a wonderful mother, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the sweetest woman you could ever meet. She will be greatly missed.
