East Lansing. He was born August 9, 1928, at his family home in Vincennes, Indiana.
Jesse’s family relocated to Lansing, Michigan when he was one year old. Later as
newlyweds, Jesse and his wife, Augusta built their own home on Coolidge Road, in
East Lansing, Michigan. He and Augusta created a loving home. He lived in that home
for 68 years, until his passing.
Although he spent his life in the Lansing and East Lansing area, Jesse traveled
extensively with Augusta and their family. He especially enjoyed road trips throughout
the United States and stopping at state parks and road side parks for picnics. His
favorite destinations were the beaches and shores of Lake Michigan, Key West, Florida
and Orange Beach, Alabama. His travels took him to 49 states, Canada, Mexico, and
several Caribbean Islands.
Jesse’s education was through the Lansing Public Schools, graduating in 1946. After
graduation he began working at Oldsmobile, where he worked for 34 years, until his
retirement in 1980. Jesse very much enjoyed retiring at a young age, where he and
Augusta were always busy with planned and impromptu activities and adventures.
A highlight of his career at Oldsmobile was in the year 1949, he was able to personally
assist in building and supervising the completion his first brand new Oldsmobile.
Throughout his life, some of his passions were his faith, gardening, reading, journaling
and crossword puzzles. His favorite times were with his grandchildren, and later his
great grandchildren. One of the highlights was when he and Augusta took their
grandchildren on a trip to Hawaii for their high school graduations. He was thankful
that he and Augusta were able to be actively involved in the lives of their grandchildren.
Jesse and Augusta celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on September 24, 2019.
They were married at College Lutheran Church (now University Lutheran Church) in
East Lansing. Jesse and Augusta were long time members of ULC. Jesse’s favorite
hymn was Amazing Grace and his favorite Bible verses were Proverbs 3:5-6 and John
3:16.
Jesse was preceded in death by his beloved wife Augusta, his parents Charles Wesley
