

Joan Alberta (Eberl) Wagner was born on June 16, 1934 in her Grandparents farmhouse, in Maple Grove , Michigan, from which she could see the steeple of St. Michael’s Catholic Church to which she is returning to rest with her parents. She graduated from Haslett High School in the class of 1952. She held several positions in State Government including secretary for Governor George Romney and Senate Enrolling Clerk retiring in 1992. After retiring she continued to be involved in government working for Lobbyist William Jowett.
Joan married Jack Wagner in 1955 and had three sons, John, Jim, and Jeff. Joan was very devoted to her family and her extended family at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Mason-Holt Aerie. Joan was an active member of the Fraternal Order Eagles for over 35 years holding various positions in both the District and State level. She was very active in the Eagles Youth Camp and numerous other activities within the Eagles. Joan was inducted into the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall of Fame and was selected as the `Woman of the Year’.
When Joan was 78 yrs. old, she studied and passed the exams to become a member of the Michigan State Association of Parliamentarians.
Joan taught professional roller skating, loved to golf, fish, bowl and water ski and had a passion for travel. Her greatest love was to cook, whether it be for one person or 300. She volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Home mentoring and sponsoring children.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Catherine Eberl, brothers Francis Eberl and Robert Eberl and Granddaughter Kimberly Wagner. She is survived by her sons John Wagner [Patty], James Wagner [Kristine] and Jeffrey Wagner [Cheryl]. Grandchildren Cassondra Kruse [Joe], Jacob Wagner, Timothy Wagner, Jed Wagner and Keri Wagner. Step-grandchildren Nathan Hicks, John Hicks and Emily Hicks. Great Grandchildren Sean Wagner, Olivia Wagner and Carter Wagner. Sisters Catherine Jacobs [Robert Miller], Sharon Metts [Dale] and Pamela Dewey [Douglas].
It was a privilege for`Team Jo’ to care for her after her stroke.

Visitation and services will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-6 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:15 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 10 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Chesaning.
