JoAnn grew up in Southfield, Michigan. She met her future husband, J. Michael Warren, in the eighth grade at Southfield High School. They were married just short of 50 years when Michael died in 2011.
After moving to the Lansing area, JoAnn worked in various volunteer jobs including St. Lawrence Hospital, Central Elementary School, the American Cancer Society, and Hiawatha Elementary School. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s numerous musical performances and sporting events (attending many in the rain, snow, or summer heat) throughout the years.
She was an avid reader, civil war buff, and played games on the computer with friends. In recent years, she even took up painting. For many years, she enjoyed attending the Wharton Center Broadway Series at Michigan State University, Lansing’s Town Hall Lecture Series, and Coral Gables luncheons once a month (hosted by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes). She also cherished Wednesday morning coffee breakfasts with friends. More than anything, she cherished a simple visit from a grandchild to sit and talk for awhile. Family meant everything to her.
JoAnn peacefully passed away on June 1, 2025 in Lansing, Michigan. She is survived by her son, J. Douglas (JoLynne) Warren, her daughter Denise (David Collee) Warren, her daughter Stephanie (Bill) Larsen, and her daughter Lynne Thatcher. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, including Josh Larsen, Kelsey (Tyler) Dodge, Shane Thatcher, Conor Warren, Kayla (Cheyenne Stiltner) Thatcher, Braden Warren, and Cassie Thatcher. She is also survived by her step-granddaughter Kristen (Mark) VanderStelt and their daughter Lucy Holman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, J. Michael Warren, her parents Charles and Gladys Westermeier, and her siblings Charles (Celia) Westermeier, Sandra Brady, and Robert (Jeanne) Westermeier.
A visitation for JoAnn will be held Friday, June 6, 2025 from 12 pm to 1 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823, followed by a funeral service at 1 pm. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Okemos.
