
John Richard "Dick" Good of Haslett was a hero to his children, grandchildren, and the love of his life, Caroline. He was a man of giant integrity who led by actions and kindness. He was 90 when he died Monday, July 11, 2016.
Born outside Pittsburgh, he enlisted in the Army at age 17 and led a 100th Infantry Division platoon through France and Germany in World War II. He was awarded two bronze stars.
He married his high school sweetheart, Caroline Jaynes, in 1948, starting a loving marriage that lasted almost 67 years. He earned bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and had a distinguished career in education, culminating as superintendent of the Churchill Area School District in suburban Pittsburgh.
Dick and Caroline had two children, Susan Andrews (husband Chris), and John Jr. "Jack," whom they loved and cherished. Dick had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Michael and Leslie Andrews.
After retiring in 1981, Dick and Caroline relocated to Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Dick was active in his church and served on the Planning Board. They moved to Haslett in 2010 to be closer to family.
He is survived by wife, Caroline Jaynes Good; daughter, Dr. Susan Good Andrews (and Chris); grandchildren Michael and Leslie Andrews (and Ryan Elsey); and many nieces and nephews. He will join many loved ones in heaven, including his son, Jack; brother, Newton Plummer Good; and sisters, Eleanor Campbell and Sara Domin.
