

Joseph Matthew Jakovac passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the age of 91. Born in Lansing, Michigan on October 1, 1925 to Ivan and Veronika (Juretich) Jakovac, he spent much of his life in the Lansing area. He served his country by enlisting in the Navy out of high school, and later, served his community as an East Lansing Police Officer and Firefighter. When he wasn’t helping others, Joseph enjoyed playing softball, fishing, cheering on his favorite sports teams (especially the Tigers), and indulging his love of old cars and peanut butter cookies.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey (McGinley), son, Joseph “Joe” Jakovac Jr, daughter, Theresa Schafer, brother, George Jakovac, and his parents, Ivan and Veronika (Juretich) Jakovac.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Scott (Diana) Haid, Michael (Shawna) Haid, Jason (Kendra) Haid, Lindsey (David) Brennick, Kelly (Randy) Jakovac Coffey, and Joey Jakovac; many great grandchildren; his special caregiver and friend, Jan Davenport; and his brother, John Jakovac.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 1:00pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Lansing.
